Arsenal must be tougher as they look to break their trophy drought by winning the Premier League this season, according to Abou Diaby.

The French midfielder has been compared to Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira after some impressive performances at the heart of the side this season, where he starred in their 3-0 victory over Hull City.

That result sees Arsenal currently sitting in third position in the Premier League, two points behind second-placed Manchester United and six behind leaders Chelsea, although the Gunners have a game in hand on both their title rivals.

Diaby claims he needs to work on the aggressive side of his game to give the Arsenal midfield more of a presence in tough games.

The midfielder told The Mirror: " I enjoy the battle and we all know we have to be prepared for these types of game and we are aware how important they are.

"You can’t be champions without wanting to take on these games. We need to show our strengths on such occasions."

Arsenal face fourth-placed Aston Villa on Boxing Day and then rock-bottom Portsmouth before the end of 2009 and Arsene Wenger will be looking for his side to put more pressure on their Premier League title rivals.
