Wenger Linked with Cardiff Youngster...

Arsene Wenger is interested in adding to his ranks of promising youngsters at Arsenal with the acquisition of Adam Mathews from Cardiff City.

The Arsenal manager could look to sign the 17-year-old defender during the January transfer window as he aims to strengthen his squad for their Premier League title bid over the coming months, Cardiff chairman Peter Risdale has revealed.

Mathews has appeared 17 times for Cardiff so far this season and could join former Bluebird Aaron Ramsey, who moved from Wales to North London 18 months ago.

According to Risdale, Arsenal and Premier League title rivals Manchester United are both interested in the Welsh defender, although neither team has lodged an official bid yet.

He told WalesOnline: "We have had two or three enquiries and I know Manchester United and Arsenal are interested in the lad.

"But there is no agreement with any club, verbal or otherwise. We want Adam to stay with Cardiff and that's what we are hoping will happen."

Wenger said after his side's 2-1 win over West Ham at the weekend that he is confident his side are more than capable of winning trophies this season.

The Gunners are battling on three fronts for silverware. They are third in the Premier League, will face Porto in the Champions League knockout phase and are among the favourites when it comes to FA Cup betting.
