Wenger: This ace is one of best defenders in the world

French international defender Laurent Koscielny scored the equaliser against Southampton on Saturday with a spectacular overhead kick, and Arsene manager Arsene Wenger believes the 31-year-old is one of the best defenders in the world.

Despite a hefty blow to the face at the end of the game on Saturday, which ended in a 2-1 win, after a late Cazorla penalty, it was thought the injury may rule him out of tonight’s Champions League game against PSG. However, in great news for us, Arsene Wenger confirmed he’s recovered and will play in Paris.

Koscielny joined Arsenal for £8.5m in the summer of 2010 and has helped the North London outfit to two FA Cup wins, and a Community Shield. He is our first choice centre back, and looking to establish a long term centre back partnership with new signing Shkodran Mustafi.

Wenger was asked if Koscielny was a world class defender, as quoted by Express, Wenger replied:

"I'd like to say yes.  No one is indispensable, but he has taken on a new status with us. He has experience, self-confidence. He's always had talent, and that hasn't always been recognised in France because he left Lorient, not a big club, so he didn't have the reputation he deserved, but he's made his name in English football. I think he's one of the best in the world. I hope he proves that…"
